For the first time, I wrote to you because there is something to tell and finally appeared a little bit of time. Leitmotiv today will be a topic like learning 3D animation. The point of no return disappeared behind three years ago. So a small group of dreamers, five years in the animation hobby, decided to make a profession out of it. Today it is almost three years old, and a dozen people produce 3D animation: children's series and advertising for computer games. And then, little understanding how to make cartoons, there were six people. The fact that we've never done 3D animation before, and the fact that no one gets the original composition, is a separate story. And today - about how, almost from scratch, an animation studio was created in Kazan, working entirely on free software.

Pipeline
The main tool was the Blender program. So literally a month ago came the rendering of Cycles, who we coughed rashly to run for projects. It is now stable and almost all powerful, and then took off on every second render. But not only that 90% of studios have never seen Blender, so we went further, and as the operating system installed Ubuntu, it was first seen by 100% of colleagues. We were as cheerful as we could. What can I say?

The Autodesk Conspiracy
Why do not the animation studios in Russia use Blender?
Of course, there is no universal secret conspiracy. And the Russian animation studios at the beginning are guided by the opinion of experts who create them. These key people already understand very well how they can create a workflow and how to optimize it even more. The experience of such a user usually exceeds the first decade and of course this is not the experience of using Blender, which in those distant times was much weaker than Max and Maya.
Our studio was free from this load of knowledge, so we swallowed Linux, Blender, GIMP, InkScape and others like them and sat down to sort it out.
The second serious reason to use Max or Maya is elementary in that there is, who works for them. The fashion for these programs and the illusion of ubiquity attract hordes of self-taught.
In Kazan, we found two students who agreed to our free time to help us. The third person who knew Blender was his humble servant. So the training seemed very simple. We almost understood what to do to get a cartoon, and I ran and asked for the buttons.

Learning Beginners
As you can guess, the sweat and blood were very spilled. The flow was also the wildest. But we were trained in the speed of loading information to the USB flash drive. Unfortunately, it was a labor of wear and tear. Constant nerves, bezvylaznaya life in the studio, but, in addition, low productivity due to an infinite number of errors.
As soon as we get through this step, we start writing a tutorial. If before that, the new employee was involved for three months, calculating his duties on his conveyor belt, now with the teacher (!) He for two months knew all the studio work and realized his place in it.
All that was, but the key figure in this process was the teacher and now he worked on the wear and tear. For a long time this can not continue and of course it has not continued.
This learning system also disintegrated. Luckily for the studio, by then we figured out how to work and the new man in the studio has already been trained by the studio. Distracted colleagues from work, were mistaken, they obtained cuffs, generally studied. And then the image was formed.
Learning from scratch in the company of dinosaurs is a difficult and dangerous occupation. A specialist does many things on the machine, he does not know that one can not know the alphabet. For the bison, we are far, but the first stupid question of the beginner, and the sensor of irritation began to descend the scale: "How can this not be known?" And there is no one to know from nowhere.
It was when it was decided to write an intensive "3D drawing from scratch" training course and include all the essentials: basic knowledge, basic tools, methods to speed up work, a description of typical mistakes and ways to avoid them. And not only the knowledge of the book, but the most applied, every day. And the work began to boil.
This course is already ready and even available for free on YouTube - goo.gl/LBzAQL But how it was created is a great story.
